Nisga'a Election Results are in: Eva Clayton returns as President; Cliff Morgan and Juanita Parnell as Prince Rupert/Port Edward reps

The results of the 2020 Nisga'a Lisims Government General election were released late Friday evening with President Eva Clayton returning to the Presidency with a second term of office and service ahead for the Nisga'a Nation.

Ms. Clayton won the presidency by a strong margin over the four other competitors claiming 958 of the 1,919 ballots that were accepted by the Nisga'a Election officials. 

From the decision of the Nisga'a people, the returning president claimed just a shade under fifty percent of the vote over all of those who contested the General election.

President elect Clayton first assumed the top elected position with the Nisga'a Lisims Government in November of 2016. 

Ms. Clayton made history in that election as the first woman to ever serve in the office of the President for the Nisga'a Nation, or its predecessor the Nisga'a Tribal Council.

In Prince Rupert and Port Edward there was no change in representation with both Cliff Morgan and Juanita Parnell returning to their duties as the Urban Local representatives for the two North Coast communities.

Farley Stewart made a good run of his campaign, but came 65 votes shy of claiming one of the two urban seats for the region.

You can review the full list of the vote count for all of the communities of the Nass Valley and all positions that were up for election from this information release from the Nisga'a Elections Office.

One exception to those listings is the Gingolx Village Council race which resulted in a tie for the fifth seat, with Nisga'a election officials to provide an update on the final results at some point in the near future.

The 2020 Nisga'a General Election saw a range of voting methods used including non-resident ballots, mail-in ballots and electronic ballots, those delivered larger margins between candidates and required additional time before declaring the final list of those who were successful in their quest for office.

On Friday the Nisga'a Elections Office issued the notice of delay in returning results as they finalized the logistics of transporting and receiving the voting materials from the Urban local voting areas.
