Prince Rupert RCMP make note of a reminder to lock vehicles and secure belongings as theft cases grow

Whether you're parked at a mall, or in your driveway; make sure
that you lock your vehicle and secure your valuables

The naughty side of Santa's list is destined to fill up as a string of November thefts from cars,  giving the Prince Rupert detachment of the RCMP cause to provide for a seasonal reminder to ensure that your vehicle is secured and your belongings out of sight.

In an information release from Corporal Devon Gerrits on Thursday the Watch Commander relayed to the public that there had been 10 reported thefts from vehicles in the month of November.

Though it should be noted that following further investigation into the thefts, it had been determined that all of the vehicles had been left unsecured.

The Mounties further explain how these are crimes of opportunity and the chances of you becoming a victim are lessened simply by locking up the vehicle when it's not occupied.

Should you notice any suspicious activity in your neighbourhood or witness a theft in progress contact the Prince Rupert RCMP at 911,  or if you wish to remain anonymous make use of the Crimestoppers program at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) to share your information.
