Prince Rupert RCMP seek help of public in identifying two males from January assault incident

Update, Sunday:
Prince Rupert RCMP provided an update to their request for help of Saturday, advising that thaw suspects in question had been identified.

"In the last 24 hours, we have received multiple messages and calls from the public positively identifying the same 2 suspects. This is another great example of how with the help of social media, community members are able to contribute to making their community safer by assisting their local police.

Without the public's help, it was unlikely that this investigation could have kept moving forward. We're now happy to say that it is no longer the case and that police will attempt to speak with the 2 suspects very soon." -- Constable Gabriel Gravel, Media Relations Officer with the Prince Rupert RCMP.

The Prince Rupert RCMP is calling on the public for assistance in identifying  two males that are alleged to have been involved in a January assault.

In an information release from the Prince Rupert Detachment, Mounties outlined the nature of the incident that took place in the centre of the city's downtown core, as well as their interest in the two males they describe as suspects.

On January 13, 2022 at approximately 10:00 pm, the Prince Rupert RCMP attended 6th St between 1st and 2nd Ave W for a report of a random assault on a man.

The victim told police that as he was walking in the Prince Rupert Square Mall parking lot, 2 unknown men approached him and asked him to stop.

The victim ignored them and kept walking towards the Prestige Hotel when one of the men punched him, causing him to fall on the concrete sidewalk and broke his wrist.

The man then left running and despite police patrolling the area, he was not located.

The path of the incident of January 13th included the lower parking
lot of the Rupert Square to the entrance of the
Prestige Hotel across the street from the lot

The male suspect of most interest is described as follows:

Caucasian man; approximately 20-years-old who features a visible acne on his face;

At the time of the incident he was wearing black and white shoes.

Anyone with information about either suspects identity are asked to call the Prince Rupert RCMP at 250-624-2136 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
