COVID cases increase for Terrace, declines recorded for Prince Rupert, many other communities

As the province of British Columbia begins to scale down some of its COVID related measures, Wednesday's data release from the BC CDC, provides a mixed message on the pace of the coronavirus in the Northwest.

It was a release of information which charts increases for Terrace, Burns Lake and Snow Country-Stikine-Telegraph Creek, while Prince Rupert, Smithers and many other Northwest communities realized declines or held firm to the levels of last week

Terrace which continues to host the highest count saw a slight increase from the 99 of last week and is now marked at 114 for the reporting period of February 6-12.

Prince Rupert realized a decline from 85 of last week, with the new total of cases for the last seven days listed as 64. Smithers also saw a drop in cases now 20 from a week ago listed at 35 this week

The full review across the region for the week of February 6-12  from the BC CDC looks as follows:

Terrace -- 114 cases
Prince Rupert -- 64 cases

Nechako -- 42  cases
Burns Lake -- 36 cases
Smithers -- 35 cases
Kitimat --  28 cases

Snow Country-Stikine- Telegraph Creek --  14 cases
Haida Gwaii --  13 cases 
Upper Skeena --  12 cases

Bella Coola Valley --  8 cases

Nisga'a Region --  5 cases

Central Coast -- 1 case

Wednesday's provincial report lists  108 new cases of COVID for the Northern Health region.

For the Northern Health Region in total as of Wednesday, 47 patients are listed as in hospital which is an increase of 12 from last week,  with 14 noted as in Critical Care, a decrease of 2 from seven days ago.

The  breakdown of hospitalizations by community in the Northern Health region is not included in the data release information.
