With eye on Zones and hopefully Provincials, Senior Rainmakers have kept busy in recent weeks

It's been a most unusual year for the Charles Hays Senior Boy's Basketball team, with ever changing rules on sports at the BC High School level, they have seen plans need a revisit frequently, with games cancelled and mini tournaments suspended for now, getting in some game time competition has been something that has taken a lot of work for coaches Ryan and Mel Bishop.

A planned showdown with Duchess Park this weekend has been cancelled, leaving the coaches to look for a few more games to get in with someone before the regional zones come along.

They have managed to get in some competitive action however, with a trio of games in late January with Prince George Secondary, with the Rainmakers taking all three of weekend play.

The Makers gaining victory with scores of 93-75,79-66, 78-64, much of that scoring punch coming off the continued hot hand of Kole Jones who continues to lead a talented Senior squad through the run up to provincials.

This past weekend, he and the Rainmakers continued on with their winning ways in a two game series with Caledonia, the Makers taking both contests by scores of 80-74 and 86-47

In an email update with the NCR, co-coach Ryan Bishop noted how the team is playing well, with the current break to set up some more games a welcome one for the squad to nurse a few injuries that have come along in the last few weeks.

The Junior Rainmakers are having some strong success as well, they hosted Haida Gwaii's Gidgalang Kuuyas Naay Secondary Over the weekend, with some competitive games on the court at CHSS.

The Islanders taking the first over the Junior boys 51-45 before the Charles Hays squad bounced back on Saturday.

The follow up games saw the Rainmakers claim 63-52 and 74-64 victories

The Haida Gwaii boys moved into the weekend play after topping Nisga'a Elementary/Secondary school in the play in game.

The Rainmaker win was one which sent the Islanders coach Kris Olesn home with a familiar Green and Gold Jersey to wear at his town council session on Monday evening.

As the Senior Boys continue to make their preparations for Zones and what may come following should they succeed, they continue to generate some interest from the south.

With the most recent AA British Columbia Basketball Rankings placing them in Eighth Spot in the province, which has been a placement they have marked for a few weeks now.

As noted previous, the Makers are hoping to get in some more games before Zones on February 25/26, the AA Provincial tournament is set for Langley from March 2nd to 8th

Thanks to Ryan Bishop for the update notes as the Rainmaker season rolls along.
