Significant COVID case count declines for many Northwest communities from latest data release

The ebb and flow of COVID results saw some impressive reductions in totals for two of the largest communities of the Northwest, though the improving trend was tempered somewhat by increases in four other areas.

Terrace while still hosting the highest count for the region saw close to a fifty percent drop from last week now, the Skeena Valley community now listed at 58 for the reporting period of February 13-19.

Prince Rupert continued to see declines dropping to 40 for this reporting week, while Smithers also saw a sharp drop in cases now down to 15 for the reporting period.

The full review across the region for the week of February 13-19  from the BC CDC looks as follows:

Terrace -- 58 cases
Prince Rupert -- 40 cases

Kitimat --  31 cases

Nechako --   24 cases
Central Coast -- 17 cases

Upper Skeena --  16 cases

Bella Coola Valley --  15 cases

Smithers -- 15 cases
Snow Country-Stikine- Telegraph Creek --  13 cases

Haida Gwaii --  12 cases 
Burns Lake -- 9 cases

Nisga'a Region --  5 cases

Wednesday's provincial report lists  214 new cases of COVID for the Northern Health region.

For the Northern Health Region in total as of Wednesday, 66 patients are listed as in hospital which is an increase of 19 from last week,  with 14 noted as in Critical Care, which is the same level as last week.

The  breakdown of hospitalizations by community in the Northern Health region is not included in the data release information.
