Another night of Closure ahead for Prince Rupert Emergency Department

Northern Health has once again advised Prince Rupert residents that the Emergency Department of Prince Rupert Regional Hospital will not be available to the public, with tonight's closure, the fourth night in a row that the ER Facility has closed,  tonight's making for the longest one yet,.

The Tuesday closure went into effect at 3PM today and will continue through to 8AM on Wednesday.

The Advisory was issued just minutes after the 3 PM Closure through the Northern Health social media stream.

As in the cases previous this month, the challenges of physician staffing has been noted as the cause for the ER closure.

For those in the community with a serious health issue between now and tomorrow morning the advice from Northern Health is as follows:

If you have an emergency: People in Prince Rupert and area who need life-threatening emergency care (i.e. chest pains, difficulty breathing, or severe bleeding) should call 9-1-1 for transport to the nearest available and appropriate facility

Any time services are interrupted, our partners in patient transfer and local health services are notified and signage will be in place at the hospital informing patients to call 9-1-1 for transport.

You can review the background to all of the previous closures through our archive page.
