Chamber sings praises of Janet Song as new Interim Executive Director

Janet Song has been named the new
Interim Executive Director for the
Prince Rupert and District
Chamber of Commerce

The Prince Rupert and District Chamber of Commerce didn't have to look to far to find someone to take over the reigns from Anthony Yecyec, the popular former Executive Director for the advocates of business in the community.

Wednesday, the Chamber announced that they had selected Janet Song as their next Interim Executive Director.

Michelle Boomars-MacNeil, President of the Prince Rupert and District Chamber shared the excitement of its members with their selection from the job search which began late in August.

"We are delighted to welcome Janet to the position of Executive Director. We have already seen the results of Janet's abundant energy, vision and entrepreneurial acumen, and look forward to seeing the Chamber continue to support and grow the business community in Prince Rupert under her leadership."

Ms. Song, originally from Toronto, holds a Bachelor's Degree in Commerce and is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Economic Development and Innovation from the University of Waterloo.

Most recently she worked in the Chamber office, that in the form a partnership between the Chamber and EcoTrust Canada's North Coast Innovation Lab, in which she exercised her "think global and act local attitude" by conducting a city-wide survey on the state of businesses.

She also initiated regular conference calls to share knowledge and promote collaboration during the COVID-19 crisis.

You can review some of her work from that partnership from the EcoTrust Canada presentation we made note of last week, where Ms. Song's work on the Business innovation program is highlighted

Upon her success in the Chamber's job search competition, Ms. Song outlined some of her impressions of the city and the task ahead.

"Since moving to Prince Rupert, I've become very rooted here, and have embraced my passion for making community connections, Rupert is going through a pivotal period in its evolution, and the Chamber provides a steadying and forward-looking influence. Our resources include the information, networks, and innovative support programs that are integral to business success in our beautiful city. I am honoured to continue my journey in supporting Prince Rupert together with the Chamber's directors and members."

As she notes she has immersed herself in the community, volunteering at community events and hosting Zumba fitness instruction sessions.

You can contact her at the Chamber's Third Avenue office on the ground floor of the Capital Mall, or give her a call at 250-624-2296, by email the new Interim Executive Director can be reached at janet@princerupertchamber.ca
