Nine new cases of COVID-19 attributed to LNG Canada outbreak

Northern Health has updated their report on the COVID-19 outbreak at LNG Canada the now under construction near Kitimat, with the Health Authority noting of an additional nine cases added to the total, which is now listed as 52 since the first reports of November.

From the update, Northern Health notes:

Eight of these cases remain active (44 are considered recovered). Two people are in self-isolation at the project site. Remaining individuals are in isolation in their home communities. On-site screening of employees, contact management and tracing are continuing, and there continue to be no public exposures in Kitimat and the surrounding area at this time.

The Health authority is working with contractor JGC Fluor and LNG Canada with measures to continue to protect the health of all staff members on the site.

The first report of COVID from the site came in mid November, with a follow up update delivered on November 24th.

The LNG Canada outbreak is one of the largest ones noted in the Northwest since the coronavirus was first reported in January.
