Travel Advisory issued for Northwest travellers along Highway 16 Terrace-Prince Rupert


Update: The Highway was reopened for travel late Thursday afternoon, with an advisory to watch for slippery sections on compact snow.

Earlier Thursday

As conditions continue to deteriorate the Ministry of Highways has now Closed the section between Shames Mountain and Rainbow Summit to travel.

While Prince Rupert residents watch the rain come down this morning, a little to the east the colder temperatures and precipitation are making for Winter Storm conditions with Drive BC issuing a Travel Advisory at 7AM today.

The report noting of Snow for the day that will be followed by Freezing Rain, with the advice to consider alternate travel plans for the start of the day.

The next update to come on the situation is anticipated for 2PM

The Environment Canada forecast for the North Coast Inland areas expands on the weather ahead today, with a WINTER STORM WARNING  in effect calling  for up to 15 cm of snow along with freezing rain to follow, the freezing rain something that could last for a number of hours before shifting just normal rainfall
