Signs of progress for 11th Avenue East housing plans

There hasn't been much heard since the plans for a new affordable housing complex on 11th Avenue East were approved by Prince Rupert City Council in October 24th of 2021

The project a much anticipated addition to the housing stock for the community is led by the Lax Kw'alaams Band. A housing program which would deliver 70 units for Lax Kw'alaams members who live in Prince Rupert.

The project gained a brief mention from then Mayor Lee Brain as part of his look at housing challenges during his State of the City presentation of June

But as for any official statements or updates they have been few and far between.

And while it's been over a year now, there are some signs that the preliminary work may be getting ready to launch, with some earth moving equipment recently stationed at an entrance into the land for the proposed housing development on 11th Avenue East.

The timeline for the project to date has spanned over three years, the project one that was announced as part of the Prince Rupert 2030 vision presentation in December of 2019.

Where it goes into the future and when the 11th Avenue East complex will be ready for move in day is still something the Lax Kw'alaams membership in the community is awaiting word on.

You can review some of our past notes on the housing proposal as part of our archive that tracks the progress for the Prince Rupert 2030 Vision Plan.
