Slowly, but surely it appears that things are coming together to get construction  of new affordable housing on 11th Avenue East underway.

This week, the sign comes from a Public Notice from the City of Prince Rupert announcing plans for a Proposed Property Disposition, that outlines some details to the lease for property along 11th Avenue East at Edwards.

"The City of Prince Rupert proposed to lease the property described below:

PID: 03-725-392

Legal Description: Lot 2 Section 8 District Lot 251 Range 5

Cost District Plan EPP104088

To the Provincial Rental Housing Corporation  for $10.00 (total) for a 60 year lease term for the purpose of providing affordable housing"

And while City Hall offices may now be Closed until the New Year, those with inquiries towards the proposed property disposition  can direct their questions to the City's Corporate Administrator Rosa Miller, in writing by way of email.

You can reach Ms. Miller at rosamaria.miller@princerupert.ca

The deadline to make your inquiries should you have any,  has been set for Friday,  December 30th, 2022

Friday afternoon, the City posted details of the Property Disposition to the city website.

The much anticipated development of affordable housing for the area was approved by the previous City Council on November 22, 2021.

The project will deliver 70 units of affordable family housing through the Lax Kw'alaams WAAP Housing Society.

The design of the time had called for 35 three bedroom, 16 two bedroom, 11 one bedroom and 8 studio units.

Work had been expected to start in 2022 towards the build, but the timeline would appear to have shifted towards a 2023 launch. There has not been much heard about its progress since the approval of over a year ago.

You can review some of the past themes related to the proposed Housing for the area through our Prince Rupert 2030 Vision Plan Project Tracker archive.
