The learning curve for Ryan Bishop's Charles Hays Rainmakers was a bit of a harsh one on Thursday, as the Senior Boys faced their first big challenge for 2022-23, with an opening round match up with St. Thomas Aquinas at the No Regrets tournament in North Vancouver.
The Makers, who make the trip annual to the Lower Mainland for the event, had a quick start in the Thursday play, but the North Van squad quickly took charge of the game taking a fifteen point lead out of the first quarter and didn't look back. The Rainmakers were able to chip into the lead at times, but the top tier team from the Lower Mainland never really were threatened and had answers to the CHSS pushes on the way to the 64-42 final score
A good overview of the Day One matchup is available from the No Regrets website here.
With the opening day loss, Charles Hays now shifts over to the B side of the three day tourney, they. next see action this evening when they have a 5:15 PM tip off against Carson Graham.
The challenge ahead will be a good one for the Makers as the game takes place in the Carson Graham Gym, which should deliver a good but loyal crowd for the North Van team.
