Prince Rupert City Council to meet in Special, Regular Session this afternoon

A notice posted to the City of Prince Rupert website on Friday has advised of a Special Regular Council session, the proceedings to take place at 3 PM this afternoon in City Council Chambers.

The 2022 Regular Council calendar of Regular Scheduled sessions had come to an end one week ago with the December 5th session, the next Regular Scheduled session will come in January on Monday 9th.

As to what may be up for discussion at today's 3. PM gathering, the City has not posted any Agenda to the session yet towards any business for the Council meeting page on the civic website.

As it's a Regular Session and not one Closed to the Public, it should be available for viewing on the Council video player at 3PM, as well as to be archived on the City's YouTube Archive.

More notes on past City Council sessions can be explored through our archive page.

  1. A pattern seems to be emerging of posting notices of a meeting without the required description in general terms of the purpose.

  2. Special Council Meetings are called on an as-needed basis to allow for Council to provide direction on matters that require a timely response.

This reader would have appreciated a couple of these meetings during last years snow fiasco.

    1. The RCMP detachment is a long term project that can be fit into the regular meeting schedule and that should be on agenda provided to the public in advance. $25 in spending decisions should not be last minute. Transparency builds trust.

    2. What frustrates readers more,
The fact that this RCMP build has been discussed for well over a decade and there has been no forward movement on it by past administrations?
Or the snap special meeting to finally rezone the property?
The money has been borrowed, interest can pile up quick on that amount.
