CityWest has some news of note when it comes to an addition to the management ranks |
Just a few weeks removed from his time as Mayor of Prince Rupert and his farewell to City Hall, Lee Brain has found some gainful employment.
And with it, the former Mayor will still have some continued affiliation with the City of Prince Rupert, heading it seems just a few blocks to the east and the Head office for the City of Prince Rupert owned CityWest.
There's no official announcement delivered yet by the communication company whether through their website or their Social media stream.
But they have already added the former Mayor to the Management listings on the CityWest website.
Mr. Brain's duties with the company will see him in place as Vice-President of Community and Stakeholders Relations.
There does not appear to have been a public competition for the position posted to the Careers listings for CityWest in the period leading up to the change of the Corporate listings this week.
Once CityWest provides some background to the change on the staff directory we'll share the details.
More notes on the City of Prince Rupert owned and operated communication company can be explored through our archive page.
The auditor general should be looking into the whole club.
ReplyDeleteFor what exactly are you anonymously accusing who of what?
DeleteI can say one thing. Some people have no shame!
ReplyDeletewhats shameful about putting your experience to good use for a business that our community owns?
DeleteThe voice inside his head called him to a new level of service, and a new chapter of his soul journey.
ReplyDeleteCitywest?
Citywest is on the way to becoming a billion dollar company thanks to the visionary leadership of the new CEO. kudos to Lee for this next chapter. connected coast is a game changer
DeleteVice President, Community & Stakeholders Relations?
ReplyDeleteGood luck with that first call to the Port Authority and DP World.
Port Authority and DP World are just customers, not stakeholders. why does that even matter to you?
DeleteIt matters to everyone who lives and works here. We have a right to government. We have a right to know how our fees are being used, especially when the government owns the company. We are the ones paying the fees and taxes. So it matters to us.
DeleteIt also matters because Prince Rupert needs to be place where businesses will want to be. And good government that provides reliable infrastructure (that's paid for fairly) matters to businesses.
Unfortunately the provincial government closed down the office of the Auditor General for Local Government as of 31 March 2021. The city council as the shareholder may have to exercise some oversight. Better yet, sell off Citywest and let the sacred cow survive in the market place without interest-free loans from the City.
ReplyDeleteHard conversations are being had about community grants, perhaps now is the time to have a hard conversation about Citywest.
Deletewhy sell off Citywest as it is quickly growing and expanding? stupid assessment. give them a couple years of offering internet on vancouver island (paid for by the government) and we will be reaping the dividends in PR for years to come
DeleteNo, that's not a "stupid assessment". Read the City's financial statements. Citywest hasn't paid dividends for many years. Those much celebrated novelty cheques represent repayments on its interest-free loan from the City.
DeleteRead my comment again.
DeleteYou ironically just proved my point.
Citywest - Why should we hire you?
ReplyDeleteLB - I love getting pictures with really big cheques.
Citywest - Any other qualifications?
LB - I Facebooked your phonebook cover contests like nobody's business.
Citywest - Welcome to the team
More accurately:
DeleteCitywest - hey young man, you're only in your mid 30s yet already have 8 years of elected experience under your belt. you oversaw an award-winning revitalization of a complex brownfield site. you got multiple muitl-million dollar projects funded and then built. and you also ran your own tech company before getting elected. ever think about putting those skills to good use for us?
Lee: Sure.
Citywest - Ok then please apply through the portal on Indeed and our HR department might get back to you for an interview
What a good job for Lee. He loves to travel on someone else's dime. Congratulations Lee on your new position. There is no public discloser of City West financials you can now travel with no scrutiny.
ReplyDeletePerhaps it's time for the provincial government to put in place transparency measures for city owned utility monopolies?
DeleteWow wow wow. if you needed any more evidence that this is just an "I hate Lee Brain" blog... here it is
ReplyDeleteAh yes I was waiting for your usual screed.
DeleteAny time a story about City Hall, civic investments or local officials is posted it's the ole Hate Lee Brain blog gaslighting from you ...
Let's review the story, it mentions he was appointed VP, there has been no statement from CityWest and there does not appear to be any competition posted for the job ...
That's all that was noted ... the comments that have come in are from he the loyal Subjects of Prince Rupert, who seemingly have some questions on optics of it all NCR
You must not be watching the job boards around town very closely. the job was posted on Indeed for weeks.
DeleteLet's see if you continue to surpess my comments then...
DeleteThis is another textbook definition of projecting your own insecurities.
Gaslighting is your speciality. Making people think the worst of what should be good news
Ah yes, and I was waiting for your usual unconvincing denials.
DeleteLet's review the facts. Because without the facts, we cannot have truth. And without truth, we cannot have a shared reality.
Simple facts: the job posting was on Indeed for weeks. Lee Brain has a pretty extensive track record of relevant experience. Citywest is growing rapidly. Rapid growth means more capable people are needed.
Why insinuate anything different?
That's not all you noted, sir.
Deletethe title of your article clearly insinuates something more sinister
Insinuates nothing ... a headline is a device to catch attention for an article, in this case a place to land following one's last job.
DeleteStart your own blog ... create your own headlines see how they fly!
NCR
Parachute really insinuates nothing in your mind?
DeleteThanks for explaining what headlines are for though.
i wonder how this blog will possibly stay relevant now that lee brain is no longer the mayor
ReplyDeleteWell, I guess it will remain relevant if you will, as long as curious little stories come out of civic areas of interest and people continue to read them.
DeleteAnd of note,FYI, while not Mayor any more, Mr. Brain seemingly remains an employee of a City of PR instrument so ... his tenure carries forward for review.
NCR
Wow, only 7 minutes response time.
DeleteNo wonder this blog is so on the ball with getting out stories so quickly, you clearly aren't searching for a job! Otherwise you could have applied for the VP role yourself!
Oh wait, maybe that's why there's a really tone of bitterness, were you the runner up?
i will certainly keep reading in order to keep you accountable here in the comments section.
Deletealthough you keep on supressing my comments that are even a bit critical of your authorship. even when I throw in a compliment here and there...
From the peanut gallery that didn’t run for council. This blog will remain relevant so long as city hall keeps hiding it’s actions from the public.
DeleteCityWest making deals around the province, Watson Island and the real deal with the Wheelhouse pub to name a few.
Shining a light is a healthy exercise unless you have something to hide. You attack the blog what is being hid!
I’m here for the popcorn… this blog is stale without Lee Brain around anymore
ReplyDeleteMy favourite thing about this blog is a chance to hear the internal logic of the some of the people who favour total lack of transparency and accountability in local government. Here's how their logic sounds to these ears...
ReplyDelete"The nerve. The nerve, of people who feel entitled to have their taxes and fees go to someone other than us. The nerve. We'll name call them and tell them that all these calls for oversight and transparency are simply ridiculous! Who do they think that they are? Voters? Citizens? Residents? Well, we'll show them. Just watch us.... Ha! Ha! Ha!"
Don't forget the definitions taken from an apparently well-thumbed "textbook" that is cited as a source.
DeleteSometimes statements come from a version of reality that some of us just don't and maybe never will understand, such as: "Citywest is on the way to becoming a billion dollar company thanks to the visionary leadership of the new CEO." A billion dollars? According to the latest audited financial statement Citywest has an asset value of $46,459,763. So the company is going to grow to 21 times its current value in the foreseeable future? Really?
The potential deal for Shaw is 22x current value .... and that was before the stock doubled last year after the deal was announced. So not that outlandish, considering the company service network is growing exponentially thanks to Connected Coast
DeleteWhoever this dingus is that is bitching and complaining about someone's civic blog, please piss off. Seriously get a hobby.

As for themes raised above, those conversations can still continue and in a more constructive fashion:
For the themes on how the city runs its string of companies including CityWest, contact the city's corporate administrator and ask when the next public comment period at City Council is and drop in and raise, or discuss them with the elected councillors who represent you.
Short of that, send a correspondence to the council members and suggest a public session to answer questions, comments or concerns on all of their initiatives.
For CityWest service issues, contact the company about its in town fibre project delays or other concerns. Or again, ask City Council to invite Management and the Board to Council to provide some answers to service/corporate concerns.
And for those wishing to send their best to the newly in place VP for Community and Stakeholder relations, his email address is available for correspondences in the Management register on the CityWest website.
On to a new week of looking for items for the blog, thanks for reading
