COSCO moves a reconfiguration, adjustment of routes: Prince Rupert Port Authority, DP World

Image from PRPA
Last week, we outlined some changes to the Trans Pacific Shipping industry, with the global shipping line COSCO changing its routing structure and eliminating a direct service from Prince Rupert to a pair of Chinese ports.

At the time we reached out to officials. at both the PRPA and DP World, for any comments related to the change in service structure and any impact on Prince Rupert.

On Friday afternoon, both offered up short statements towards the business decision from the shipping line.

The change in service announced does not represent a loss of business, but a reconfiguration of COSCO service routes. COSCO will continue to call on the Port of Prince Rupert as part of its CEN and PNW services. -- Katherine Voigt, Manager Corporate Communications Prince Rupert Port Authority

From DP World, we received the following from Angela Kirkham, Director of Communications:

The same number of COSCO vessels will continue to call the Port of Prince Rupert. COSCO is adjusting its port rotation, which includes the reintroduction of the CEN service.

Over the course of the last week, two COSCO vessels have arrived and departed from the DP World facility at Fairview Terminal.
