MLA's Week: October 29 - November 1, 2018

The themes of electoral reform and transportation made for much of the work of the two Northwest BC MLA's this week in the Legislature, with Ms. Rice speaking to the BC Government's success on transportation across Northern BC, while MLA Ross directed his attention towards the referendum process currently underway in the province.

Ms. Rice, spoke twice in the Legislature Chamber this week, adding some recognition for a North Coast educator to the statements list, along with her larger overview of the transportation issues.

Our look at the work week that just concluded, can be found below:

On the week, Ms Rice was listed twice in the accounts of the sessions of the Legislature from October 29 to November 1.

Her opening notes coming on Monday morning and a review of some of the advances made on transportation in the Northwest, elements which featured the BC North Bus, Northern Health Connections bus and the regional transportation links operated by BC Transit, the latter of which does not yet serve her own home riding of the North Coast.

Ms. Rice provided the legislature with a snap shot of the work of an early education advocate in Prince Rupert, hailing the work of Kate Toye in the region and noting for the legislature Ms. Toye's success in the recent School District elections.

The political week actually had its start over the weekend in Prince Rupert, as Ms. Rice and Minister of Citizens' Services Jinny Sims went door knocking in the city in support of the Yes side of the electoral reform referendum.

The North Coast MLA is also a permanent member of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, serving as the convener of that forum.

For our readers from the Terrace-Kitimat region, Skeena MLA Ellis Ross was mentioned twice for his work in the Legislature from October 29 to November 1.

The Skeena MLA had his opportunity to weigh in again on the electoral reform process, with Ellis Ross taking two opportunities this week in the Legislature to raise his concerns with how the process has been introduced and some of the issues that he believes should be considered for the period following the vote, should the reforms be approved by the voters.

We'll go out on a limb ... and pencil MLA Ellis Ross as a NO for this round of electoral reform voting

Mr. Ross is also a permanent member of the Standing Committee on Legislative Initiatives.
