Council redraws cannabis borderlines to include Five Corners and section of Park Avenue

City Planner Zeno Krekic reviewed some of his findings from the
City's community engagement session on cannabis regulations

City Council made for some significant progress towards retail cannabis regulations at Monday's City Council session, with Council members giving first and second reading to the Cannabis regulations bylaw, as well as to set December 10th as the date for the Public Hearing into the zoning requirements to introduce the sale of cannabis to the community.

As part of the review, council received two reports from the city's Communication Director Veronika Stewart and City Planner Zeno Krekic, with both reviewing some of the key take aways from the November 13 community engagement session held at Coast Mountain College.

Mr. Krekic's report also delivered a slight shift in the boundaries for retails sales, with Council keeping to their original plan of allowing sales only in the downtown core, but also expanding some of that territory to include the Five Corners area and a stretch westbound on Park Avenue.

City Council has added a stretch west of Five Corners to the map for
potential retail sales of cannabis

Mr. Krekic also noted for Council that the Rupert Square which had originally expressed some hesitation at being included in the cannabis retail zone, had contacted the City to advise that they wished to be included in the zone to allow for potential sales.

The process will move forward at the December 10th City Council session, with Council to consider the bylaw further following the public hearing of the same night.

You can review some of the background to their reports here.

You can review the twin presentations from the City's Video Archive,  Ms. Stewart's contribution to the night starts at the thirty two minute mark, while Mr. Krekic's overview can be found at the forty four minute mark.
