Winter safety for pedestrians and motorists on the mind of local Mounties

As we head into storm season of November and the darker hours of the morning and early evening periods the Prince Rupert RCMP is reminding pedestrians and motorists to be extra cautious on city streets.

Yesterday, the RCMP along with ICBC, handed out reflective safety reflectors, making for a one hour blitz in the downtown area to spread the word on safety. The joint initiative took place between 3 and 4 PM with members of the Prince Rupert detachment along with Doug MacDonald ICBC's Road Safety and Community Coordinator for Northern BC distributing the reflectors to passersby.

You can check in at the detachment to see if they have any of the reflector let over from yesterday's information campaign.

Prince Rupert Mounties are reminding drivers to reduce their speed as the winter driving conditions arrive, while pedestrians should also take precautions as they walk the city streets and cross busy
roadways in the downtown area.

ICBC has some background on the increased peril for pedestrians through the winter season as well as to offer these tips to help with pedestrian safety across the province.
