Prince Rupert holds top ten spot for best jobs in BC

The end of the year is usually the time for lists and this year's review from BC Business has some glad tidings for the North Coast with Prince Rupert continuing to hold a top ten position in the magazine's Where to Work listings for 2019.

The annual review of factors and trends that highlight where British Columbians might find the most happiness in their work/home mix. The survey includes all communities with a population of over 10,000 residents and did not include bedroom communities of larger cities.

The fifth edition of the review which is compiled with the research group Environics Analytics looks to determine the economic outlook for communities with a gaze towards how the year ahead may unfold.

Towards their review, such factors as housing starts, income growth and household income projections, commuting time, unemployment rates and household spending and recreation time.

For Prince Rupert, this year's compilation of the numbers has delivered a sixth place spot on the list of 46, one down from last year when the North Coast was posted at number 5.

Among the key indicators that kept Prince Rupert among the top ten, an average household income of $98,108, a five year average household growth in income of close to 21 percent.

The only negative factor from the ten items reviewed, the continuing decline for the city's population base, noted at having dropped by another 2.1 percent in the last year.

The only other Northwest community to be listed in the report was that of Terrace.

And for that community, there was a significant drop for this years review, with the city ranked at 17th overall for 2019, a plummet of thirteen places from their 4th spot placement of 2018's report.

Prince George, the largest community of Northern BC saw a boost to its fortunes for this year, rising six spots from last year's 32 spot placement to a ranking of 26 for 2019.

The top ranked location for 2019 was the Sea to Sky corridor of the Greater Vancouver area, with Squamish, Whistler and District of North Vancouver all ranking 1, 2, 3 for 2019.

The community with the most work to do to improve on its standing for next year is Port Alberni which was rated at 46th for this years project.
