Starting on Friday, members of the Prince Rupert RCMP will be conducting several random check stops in the community, part of a nationwide campaign to educate motorists and the community about the risks of drinking and driving.
The details of the increased enforcement campaign were provided in a press release from the Prince Rupert RCMP from Thursday and appear designed to provide opportunity for motorists to consider the consequences of their actions, should they choose to drive while impaired.
Each year thousands of Canadians are injured or killed as a direct result of impaired driving, and we will be out in the community actively looking for drivers under the influence of alcohol or drugs...
If you are planning on consuming alcohol please do not drive. Find an alternative way to get home such as public transit, cabs, or a designated driver who can help ensure that you and people sharing the road with you get to their destinations safely. -- Constable Matt Ericson, spokesman for the Prince Rupert RCMP.
No timeline as to how long the enhanced enforcement campaign and random check stops will continue was provided as part of the information release.
