MLA's Week: May 6 to 9, 2019

It was a fairly light workload for the two Northwest MLA's in this week's accounts of the British Columbia Legislature

North Coast MLA Ms. Rice was noted twice in the listings of the Legislature minutes on the week, with comments on a Liberal private members motion and one of her regular updates on Emergency preparedness in the province.

As for Mr. Ross there were no notes of interest marked in the index for the MLA from Skeena during  the four days just passed.

There was however, some news of note for the Northwest coming out Legislature and through provincial ministries for the week.

Among the notes of the week, the suspension of plans for a major highway project in the Northwest along the Highway 16 corridor

Expect delays for the foreseeable future ... as Mile 28 Railway crossing project between Prince Rupert and Terrace goes to the shelf

This week also saw the Legislature pay tribute to the 19th anniversary of the signing of the Nisga'a treaty

The provincial government was also an interested observer in the release of the findings from a House of Commons study into the West Coast fishery, with a number of the 20 recommendations released this week impacting on provincial government areas of interest.

For the week just passed, North Coast MLA Jennifer Rice had a fairly light agenda for commentary in the Chamber.

Our look at the work week that just concluded, can be found below:

On the week, Ms Rice was listed twice in the accounts of the sessions of the Legislature from May 6-9

The first commentary that of some thoughts on the Trans Mountain Pipeline as part of a reply to private members motion from the BC Liberals in the morning session of Monday.

Her second contribution of the day came as part of Monday's afternoon session, as the Parliamentary Secretary for Emergency Preparedness took note of Emergency Preparedness week in the province.

Ms. Rice also served some portion of Thursday afternoon sitting as the Chair of the Committee of Supply for Energy, Mines and Petroleum resources,

She also held similar duties on Wednesday during a Committee session on Estimates for the Ministry of Education, she also attended as chair a portion of the Monday afternoon sitting

The North Coast MLA is also a permanent member of the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs, serving as the convener of that forum.

For our readers from the Terrace-Kitimat region, Skeena MLA Ellis Ross had a very quiet week when it came to participation in the House, with no mentions in the Legislative Chamber listings  from May 9-10

Mr. Ross is also a permanent member of the Standing Committee on Legislative Initiatives.
