Latest Gitga'at Treaty information sessions set for next week in two locations

Members of the Gitga'at First Nation  in both Prince Rupert and Hartley Bay will have a chance to learn of the latest notes on the ongoing Lands Incremental Treaty Agreement proposal next week.

The information sessions are part of what has become ongoing consultations with the near 650 members that live both in Prince Rupert and In Hartley Bay.

For May the Treaty Office has put four community engagement sessions on the calendar.

The first two sessions are scheduled for May 27 and 28 in Hartley Bay at the Wahmoodmx Cultural Centre

May 27 -- 5:30 PM to 9:00 PM
May 28 -- 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM

The schedule for information sharing then shifts to Prince Rupert with two additional meetings planned for May 30 and 31, taking place at the Gitga'at offices at 632 Third Avenue West.

May 31 -- 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM

The Prince Rupert information sessions take place later this month
at the Gitga'at First Nation offices on Third Avenue West


As part of the information sharing gatherings, Gitga'at members will hear some of the background towards the treaty agreement and have opportunity to offer their feedback on the process in an Open House format.

Tina Dion, the Treaty Negotiator for the Gitga'at will be in attendance for the four days of consultation, with all information that is exchanged to be held as confidential.

The event is a closed event, available only to those who are Gitga'at members over the age of 16.

In addition to the general membership, organizers are hoping for the participation of those Gitga'a knowledge holders and land and marine users of the First Nation to attend to share their perspective.
