PRMS Bands mix music and the sights on Edmonton tour

Like all musicians, the life of music is one of road travel ...
In this case the PRMS Concert  and Jazz Bands are taking in
the sights and a few workshops  as part of a trip to Edmonton

As part of their year end celebration of a successful year of Band at Prince Rupert Middle School, Music instructor and musical director Kristy Tillman has taken her troupe on a tour of the Edmonton area this week, a reward for hard work through the year and a chance to explore some of the musical offerings of the Edmonton Music Scene, as well as many other attractions found along the way from Prince Rupert to the Alberta capital.

While they have been in Edmonton the Band has taken in some music workshops at Grant McEwan University which has a highly regarded music program. It's a visit that will provide students with a glimpse at the many facets of the music industry that are available to them from performing to recording engineering and much more.

It's not all music however for the group, with a few stops along the way to take in the Jasper SkyTram, Edmonton's Science World and Imax Theatre,  the Alberta Legislature and Ukrainian Heritage Village among some of the destinations to be explored before the group heads back to the North Coast.

The Band raised funds through the months previous to their trip with a number of projects to help reduce the cost of the travel and accommodations required for the journey east.

The most recent success for the band at the Pacific Northwest Music Festival in Terrace could see the band make a return trip to Alberta next year for the MusicFest Canada  showcase in Calgary, with the next year set to be one of planning and fundraising, should a trip to the event be approved by School District officials.

You can follow along with some of the journey through the Twitter feed of Ms. Tilllman who has been charting some of the expedition as it has moved forward.
