Contractors with the Ministry of Transportation were back in Prince Rupert this week ,working on the crosswalk at the Canada Post building |
Workers from Westcana Electric have been back in the city this week, as the Prince George contractor continues with the Ministry of Transportation's ever evolving plan to improve safety along the city's main thoroughfare of 2nd Avenue West.
This week, the crews have been working at the corner of Third Street and 2nd West, at the intersection adjacent to the Canada Post building.
The work so far this week, has seen new poles installed around the crosswalk area, which will provide for better lighting and a safer crossing environment on that stretch of 2nd West.
It follows on the heels of a stopover in February where crews addressed the intersection at Sixth and 2nd Avenue West, as well as intersections along McBride.
The recent work is one of a number of items from this to do list, which the Ministry first outlined for City Council in September of 2018.
Slowly but surely, 2nd Avenue West is seeing a collection of new safety measures put in place for the busy thoroughfare |
The work in the city starts up again, in the days following the announcement last week by the Transportation Ministry that the much anticipated highway crossing project at Mile 28 has been suspended due to cost.
The announcement made for commentary from Councillor Wade Niesh at Monday's City Council session, who had asked for the city to write a letter to the Ministry seeking a more thorough explanation.
At Monday's council session, Mayor Brain observed that the City would be meeting with the Regional Director for the Northwest in the near future, he suggested that any council members that may wish to attend that meeting should let him know.
