Northwest RCMP and partners to put extra attention on the roads, waterways and campsites this May Long Weekend

As we all prepare to enjoy the three day weekend ahead, those that are taking to the roads, rivers or lakes over the May Long weekend will want to go easy on the accelerator and reign in any behaviour that may impact on the neighbours in campsite areas.

From tomorrow through to the holiday Monday, RCMP members in the Northwest along with Conservation officers, Provincial Park Rangers, DFO officers and West Pacific Traffic Services will be conducting extra enforcement activities around the Northwest, focused in part on the Terrace region.

Staff Sergeant Michael Robinson from the Terrace detachment reviewed some past history as part of the Mounties notice to the public on this weekends enforcement plan.

"In past years we have issues with underage drinking, adults supplying minors with liquor, and drinking and driving. Don’t be silly. Drink responsibly, follow the rules of the road, and keep an eye on your kids, particularly your young adults. By doing those few things, you can better protect yourselves from the consequences of poor decision making, which includes police enforcement and tickets."

You can review more of the plans from the RCMP and their law enforcement partners from this information release.

Should you have concerns about behaviour over the weekend you are asked to contact the RCMP at 250-624-2136 in Prince Rupert and 250-638-7400 in the Terrace region.

Emergency concerns as always should be directed towards 9-1-1.
