For Chamberlin Avenue site, everything old will be new again ...

It's a green light for a return to the commercial sector for the old Neptune Inn
site, with City Council approving plans on Monday for hotel accommodation
and restaurant use for the Chamberlin Avenue location

It most likely will have a new name when the renovations are done, but the spirit of the Neptune Inn will live again on Chamberlin Avenue, that following a Public Hearing and then final approval on zoning issues related to the property that once hosted the long time east side motel and restaurant.

The two stage efforts of Monday, brought to an end a three month process for the proposed owners of the Yellowhead Centre location, with James and Corinne Warburton set to purchase the property from Macro Properties and return it to its former status as accommodation and restaurant use.

As part of the Public hearing, Mr. Krekic reviewed much of the past material that Council has heard in relation to the request for the zoning change, noting how the property had previously hosted a hotel and restaurant in the form of the Neptune Inn, but had been rezoned to allow for a Seniors Housing.

He observed as to how those plans have changed, with the owner Macro Properties looking to sell the location to the Warburton's.

The City planner noted that there had been no any over the counter inquiries or comments related to the application.

One member of the public came forward to comment, with Brian Musgrave of Rainbow Chrysler speaking in favour of the zoning change, observing how it would be a benefit to the businesses that are located in the same area.

He noted that when the building operated as the Neptune Inn and restaurant it was a welcome addition to the light industrial area and helped contribute to the security of the area, with less vandalism and other issues reported when the facility was in operation.

With no other participation from the public, the hearing was adjourned and Council followed up on the topic later in the evening, as part of the Regular Council session.

Two council members in Councillors Niesh and Mirau spoke in favour of the move to return the location to its previous use, and following those testimonials Council then quickly gave third and final reading to the required bylaw changes to the Chamberlin Avenue location.
