Literacy the focus with latest announcement from SD52

With improving literacy a significant focus for School District 52, the District has taken steps to add to its roster of staff and administrators dedicated towards the goal of literacy through a number of school based programs.

Yesterday, SD52 announced the appointment of Nav Chonker to the position of District Literacy Program Administrator, with Ms. Chonker having taken on her duties as of December 2nd.

The new administrator brings wide range of experience in both British Columbian and Ontario, having most recently have served as the District Principal for Inclusive Education in the North Okanagan.

As a lifetime learner, Ms. Chonker has a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education and is a Master o Professional Communication. Her thesis studies were focused on language and communication in remote reservation communities in British Columbia. She also holds a special education specialist certificate.

Her arrival at the District Office is a bit of a homecoming for the educator, who previously worked in Lax Kw'alaams earlier in her career.

From her time in the North Okanagan, the key approach Ms. Chonker brought to her position was directed towards building partnerships and trusting relationships wit all education stakeholders.

You can get a sense as to how she approaches working towards success for students  from her biography from the SD83 website.

Some of the District's focus on literacy goals can be explored through their Framework for Enhancing Student Learning.
