Stephen Conway to take on duties as new Chief Administrative Officer at Lax Kw'alaams

There will be a new Chief Administrative Officer in the offices of the Lax Kw'alaams Band Council in the New Year with Mayor Gary Reece and Council welcoming Mr. Stephen Conway to the community last week.

In a notice for community members, the Mayor and Council introduced Mr. Conway, who brings over thirty years of experience working with First Nations to the job, as well as what the Band Council describes as some extensive  knowledge in a range of areas of note for the community.

Among some of the facets of Administration that  he will bring to Lax Kw'alaams include strong experience in areas of finance, policy development, economic development, housing, social development, education, assessment and taxation, community infrastructure, planning land development, forestry and finance.

The mayor and council note that the new CAO is also considered to be a strong leader in the areas of human resource capacity building and management.

The overview did not provide for any details as to which communities he may have previously served at, or a timeline of his past duties through his career.

Mr. Conway will take on his new duties as of January 6th, 2020.

His hiring comes after a lengthy application period which as we noted at the time started in September.

When he arrives at the office in January, he will make for the fourth new CAO to take to the career field in the region, with Prince Rupert, Port Edward and North Coast Regional District all having hired new CAO's in the last five months,

The Lax Kw'alaams announcement can be reviewed here, as well as through the Community's Facebook page.
