Recreation Centre to offer Lifeguard Training program in New Year

Your first step towards working as a Lifeguard will be available in January as the City of Prince Rupert Recreation Department offers a Bronze Medallion program on successive Sundays from January 11th to February 1st.

The program which will take place from 8 AM to 1 PM,  will provide for an understanding of lifesaving principles as part of the four components of water rescue eduction judgment, knowledge, skills and fitness.

The pre-requisites for the Bronze medallion course are participants must be 13 years of age and have completed the Bronze Star Course.

The cost of enrolment for the program is $270.

Last week we made note of some of the challenges that the Recreation Centre has had of late in trying to hire on full and part time lifeguards, with the Earl Mah Aquatic Centre having to close in some instances due to the lack of trained staff members to watch over those in the pool.

You can learn more about the upcoming program from the City's Recreation Department Facebook page.
