Charles Hays Secondary's Totem Pole project continues to take shape

Wok is progressing nicely on the new Totem pole project
at Charles Hays Secondary School

A project that makes for part of the Truth and Reconciliation process for School District 52 continues to make great strides at Charles Hays Secondary.

As the work of students, staff and members of the community moves forward on what has become a cross cultural observance for both students and staff of the school, as well as for residents of the city itself.

The latest notes on the work on a new totem pole for the Prince Rupert Boulevard School came from the Twitter feed of Principal Sandra Pond who has charted the progress of the project so far, with the pole now split into two sections and ready for further detailed work.

Since the project began several student classes have had opportunity to watch the work in progress, ask questions and connect the pole to their classroom learning situations.

Many hands have had an opportunity to help create the work, which is being created by renowned North Coast Carver and artist Russell Mather.

The work on the Charles Hays project was featured as part of the Recent Prince Rupert Rotary Auction, which  provided additional exposure to understand the scope of the work and how it will help towards the goals of reconciliation in the community.

Some of the background to the ongoing crafting of the pole can be found from the School District 52 website, as well as through the Charles Hays Secondary newsletters.

Back in November, we noted that Lori Burger, who is the Truth and Reconciliation Coordinator Administrator for SD52 had launched a number initiatives towards projects at the School District.

The School District  also offer up a blog that features notes on the progress of some of those initiatives through the Wap Sigatgyet News.

You can view that information source here.
