Skeena-Bulkley Valley MP Taylor Bachrach takes his seat as Parliament resumes in Ottawa

MP Taylor Bachrach from the
floor of the House of Commons
An election of a speaker and the Speech from the Throne marked the first day of the new Parliament on Thursday as the new Liberal government, a minority government delivered following the October election launched its agenda for the parliamentary session ahead.

In among the collection of newly elected or returning MP's was Skeena-Bulkley Valley's Taylor Bachrach, a rookie MP who took his seat in the House for the election of the speaker and then was part of the parade to the Senate to hear from Governor General Julie Payette.

Following yesterday's events, Mr. Bachrach took to his Facebook portal to share some of his thoughts on the events of these first days for Parliament.

Among some of his themes. the learning curve that a rookie MP has to embark on, some notes on what he can and can't record while in the House of Commons.

Mr. Bachrach also provides some thoughts on the Throne Speech and how they should resonate with residents in Skeena-Bulkley Valley.

He noted that he and the NDP were looking for action on such issues as Pharmacare, Climate Action, Infrastructure and Reconciliation from the themes of the Speech from Thursday.

As we noted in late November, Mr. Bachrach has been assigned the critics role for Infrastructure and Communities and that will make for some of his focus for inquiries when Question Periods come along through the session ahead.

For those looking to spot the MP when the cameras pan the House of Commons Chamber he can be found at the back corner and ironically on the right of the map below, though his seat is located on the left side of the Speaker's chair.

The first order of business for the new Skeena MP may be to cast an opposing vote towards the Liberal's Parliamentary blue print, with NDP leader Jagmeet Singh indicating his party will not vote in favour of the Speech.

That however should not put the new parliamentary session in peril, while the NDP  and Conservatives have indicated that they won't show confidence in the blue print, the Bloc Quebecois have state that they plan to vote with the Trudeau Liberals, which will ensure that the session continues and no snap election will be called.
