Stormy weather in Hecate Strait will keep BC Ferries in port with service suspended

There will be no traffic through Prince Rupert's Fairview Bay
BC Ferries terminal today, as an approaching storm leaves the
Prince Rupert-Skidegate schedule subject to cancellation today

With a Gale Warning now in effect for Hecate Strait, BC Ferries has announced that the Monday and Tuesday sailings of the Northern Expedition have been cancelled.

The weather which will see winds of 40 knots through the night are part of a Pacific frontal system that is set to batter the North Coast and Haida Gwaii for the rest of the week.

Seas between Haida Gwaii and Prince Rupert are expected to reach up to 5 metres through the overnight and Tuesday  morning period.

BC Ferries announced the sailing cancellations just before the noon hour, noting that tonight's 10 PM departure from Fairview Bay and the return journey from Skidegate of 10 AM tomorrow morning have been cancelled.

The cancellation  has also impacted on service to Port Hardy and Bella Bella.

You can access the latest updates on the Service from the BC Ferries website and twitter feed.
