Coast Mountain College Countdown ...

It's a new school year ahead for the Prince Rupert campus
of Coast Mountain College, though one a little different than
what was found one year ago in the city

With a successful orientation of late last month for the incoming class of 2020-21 now in the past, the start of the upcoming college year is fast approaching, one slightly different than just one year ago when COVID-19 protocols were not on anyone's horizon.

And while the upcoming school year will make for a significant change, Coast Mountain College is committed to making the upcoming year a rewarding one for their student body.

“We know that the upcoming academic year looks different for most students, but we are excited to show students that learning from home can be an incredibly engaging, experiential and rewarding experience,” -- Coast Mountain College President and CEO, Justin Kohlman.

As part of the ongoing updates towards post secondary education in the Northwest, Coast Mountain College today provided a thumbnail sketch of the year ahead for students, staff and administrators.

With the vast majority of students set to take advantage of the distributed online learning platform for 2020-21, there are still some who will require some in classroom or workshop components as part of the programs that they are enrolled in.

And towards adherence to the Coast Mountain College COVID-19 measures, here's what's ahead when classes resume after Labour Day.

Limited face-to-face activities: Only approved face-to-face activities will take place on CMTN campuses this academic year.

Self-assessments: How are you feeling? Only come to campus if you are healthy and not experiencing any symptoms of COVID-19.

Wash your hands. People are encouraged to wash hands with soap and water frequently, particularly before and after entering new spaces.

Physical distancing. Stay 6 feet - or ONE MOOSE - apart.

Face coverings are strongly encouraged. CMTN strongly encourages the use of face coverings while on campus. It is recommended that they be worn when indoors, and in any circumstance where safe and consistent physical distancing is not possible.

No visitors please: Our campuses remain closed to the public and are open only to staff and faculty approved to work on campus, and prospective and registered students.

The protocols and COVID-19 framework towards safety were developed following the recommendations from the Public Health Officer, BC Centre for Disease Control and WorkSafe BC, they are in alignment with the guidelines of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training.
