SD52 outlines further Return to School information and Options

Students have a few extra days to prepare for the start of the 2020-21 School year, with Today and tomorrow set aside for teachers and staff to make last minute preparations and receive the latest updates on the path ahead from School Administrators.
Students will begin to arrive for orientation periods on Thursday and Friday, with the start of classes planned for Monday, September 14th.

As we outlined in late August, each of the School Districts individual schools has posted their restart plans which explore policies and planning for the schools across the city.

On Friday, SD52 provided for some more background on what to expect as the schools reopen, with a range of topics tackled through an information sheet released just prior to the weekend.

In it, students, parents, teachers and staff learn of the range of guidelines that will apply for 2020-21 and what they need to know as a new school year, which will be very different from years past gets underway.

Among the notes background on cleaning and sanitizing for the schools, themes of face masks and personal hygiene, with students encouraged to bring their own mask for Middle and Secondary schools, while it will be a parental choice at the elementary school level.

A refresher on the Illness policies and a health checklist as well what learning cohorts may look like is also part of the review.

When it comes to extracurricular sports and classes decisions are still up in the air to a fashion, with the advisory they may continue if there is student/staff interest and if proper physical distancing is possible. As for out of town travel those decisions will be assessed as the year moves forward.

Of note for CHSS, Classes for Band, Basketball and the Musical will go ahead though they will become part of a cohort program and will require precautionary measures.

Students with diverse abilities and disabilities will continue to have full access to in-class instruction, with supports and services to be in place.

SD 52 does note that parents do have three options for the school year ahead,  the traditional in-class learning program, the online distributed learning program and personal homeschooling.
