Sixth Avenue West reopens to east-west traffic at Fulton Street

Traffic is flowing again east-west on Sixth West, as city
crews worked the weekend to rebuild the roadway

Some weekend work by the City of Prince Rupert has allowed for a partial reopening of the key east-west corridor of Sixth Avenue West, with the City making note of the re-opened status in a social media post from Tuesday.

While motorists and pedestrians will be pleased to hear of the end of the summer project, it is but a temporary reprieve for what would seem to be a much larger project ahead perhaps in 2021.

As we outlined last month, the project which began as a water main replacement in April, became a much larger challenge the further the city seemed to dig into the roadbed, with a number of other elements now looming large on the to do list.

For now however, barring any more unforeseen developments, once the paving is done the off road challenge of the last five months will be a memory, at least until next time.

Progress on the paving plan has been found as well,
with a long needed repaving of Sixth at Summit now complete

On the paving list, the City is finding more progress has been found on the summer paving project, with the other challenging bit of roadwork along sixth tackled over the weekend as well, that as paving crews finally had some opportune weather to finish off the Summit Avenue intersection, removing one more area of crumbled infrastructure from the list.
