City of Prince Rupert to announce appointments to Tourism Board

The City of Prince Rupert will announce its selections for representatives to the Board of Tourism Prince Rupert today, the official announcement to come at this evening's final public council session for 2020.

Set to take to new duties in the year ahead will be Michael Cote and Craig Outhet, the pair of local residents are the selection of the Council following the call for applicants back in early November.

The two successful applicants respectively have experience in aviation and the local hospitality industry on the North Coast.

The two representatives selected by Council will serve a term of two years and will have an interesting year ahead of them  with the rest of the Board of Tourism Prince Rupert, that following one of the most challenging periods ever faced by local tourism stakeholders.

As we outlined in November, the membership of Tourism Prince Rupert made note of the year just ending through their Annual Report and Virtual General meeting.

Tourism Prince Rupert will continue to focus on long-term planning and supporting the resiliency of our local sector well into 2022. In late 2020, Tourism Prince Rupert’s Board of Directors began the process to renew our five-year Strategic Plan, which currently extends from 2016- 2021. Throughout 2021, we will look to long- term planning, including developing increased strategies for destination development, local business support and advocacy, and refreshed marketing strategies.

In addition, we will continue to execute our annual marketing activities, carefully encouraging support of Prince Rupert’s tourism-reliant businesses in a way that is considerate of travel restrictions and recommendations put forward by the provincial health office.
