Emergency Alert System test rings out across BC

This is a test, this is only test ...

Across the province, cel phone alerts were ringing out at 1:55 today, as the Province of British Columbia put the Emergency Alerts System to the test, the first one of the year for the service that will alert residents to any form of immediate emergency  situation of concern.

During the test, an alert was broadcast on radio and television stations, as well as on compatible wireless devices.

The test reading : “This is a TEST of the British Columbia Emergency Alerting System, issued by Emergency Management British Columbia. This is ONLY a TEST. If this had been an actual emergency or threat, you would now hear instructions that would assist you to protect you and your family. For further information go to www.emergencyinfobc.gov.bc.ca. This is ONLY a TEST, no action is required.”

As part of the Emergency Preparedness exercise, British Columbians were directed to this page to complete a survey on the experience.

Today's test was part of a week of information on Emergency Preparedness, you can learn more about that from our blog post from Monday.

More on the work of Emergency Info BC can be reviewed here.

Should an emergency situation arrive in the region, many of our notes on any potential situation will be relayed through our Emergency Responders Archive page.
