There may soon be a new rooting interest for Northwest basketball fans when it comes to their interest in the NCAA, with former Charles Hays Rainmaker Liam McChesney reportedly testing the transfer portal of the tier one basketball program of the United States.

For the last two years the Prince Rupert Hoops star has been a member of the Utah State Aggies program, however the University newspaper The Statesman is noting that Mr. McChesney has chosen to enter the transfer protocol and pursue his basketball ambitions at another University.

He saw some spot duty with the Aggies during his stay at Utah State, red shirted for part of his college time, a period with was spent mostly in practice with little game action.

Back in the game day line up this year he suffered a leg injury in a December practice that brought his 2020-21 campaign to an end.

His first taste of the NCAA March Madness experience was a short lived one, as the Aggies exited the tournament after the first round.

The test for interest in the transfer portal comes as Utah State prepares for a new season ahead with a new coach, that after Craig Smith who recruited the 6 foot ten Rupertite resigned from the program in March.

He was replaced by new head coach Ray Odom, who has been busy assembling his own staff and recruiting a new group of prospects for the Utah Program.

As the transfer process works through the next few weeks we'll keep Northwest hoops fans up to date on the travel itinerary for the former Rainmaker.
