Prince Rupert's annual Summer lead in Festival Seafest may still have some challenges to work out, but organizers from the Special Events Society appear to be looking for creative ways to keep some of the Seafest Spirt alive for 2021.
Last year's Festival was cancelled owing to the ongoing troubles of COVID-19 and so far this year there does not appear to be events that will return to the large gatherings of a few years ago, but a Call out for registrations for the Seniors Tea a regular Seafest feature does give us an idea as to what the Seafest organizers might come up with for this year.'
This year Special Events is highlighting a Seniors Tea in your own bubble, with residents to register to receive a Tea Cheer Box for the Friday, June 11th event.
To participate in the Seniors Tea initiative all you have to do is register by June 4th by email to prspecialevents@citywest.ca or by phone at 250-624-9118, you are being asked to provide your name, address and phone number.
Once on the list, the Tea Cheer Box can be picked up as part of a drive by at the Jim Ciccone Civic Centre on Friday the 11th, for those that are shut ins, a delivery program is being put in place, you will get all the information you need at the time of registration.
The Tea Cheer Box concept has been put together by Prince Rupert Special Events Society members and those volunteers of the Better at Home program in the community.
As for the weekend of Seafest, while the Special Events Society still indicates that it will be scaled back, socially distant event, the organizers are expected to provide some details in the near future as to how they will keep the festival front and centre for the second weekend of June.
