Patient services impacted by fire at Prince Rupert Regional Hospital

Prince Rupert firefighters were called out to a fire this morning at Prince Rupert Regional Hospital, which while small in nature has had a large impact on the delivery of health care services today.

Northern Health issued the update on the situation just before the lunch hour, noting that No patients or staff were injured and everyone is safe; however some hospital services have been impacted.

Towards that advisory Northern Health notes:

The hospital remains open, including the emergency department. Patients who require lab or diagnostic imaging as part of their care needs will be either rescheduled, or transferred to another facility with the help of our patient transfer partners. Patients whose appointments need to be rescheduled will receive a call directly.

Prince Rupert residents have been asked to avoid the hospital if at all possible while the maintenance department and contracts conduct a clean up and restoration.

You can find updates on the situation from the Northern Health Prince Rupert Facebook page.
