Blog Watching: Week ending July 11, 2021

Even though it wasn't a City Council week, we managed to find a few themes of note to relay from Third Avenue West, with a number of City Council items catching the attention of readers over the last seven days.

Leafing through the City's Annual Report from June, we took note of a solitary graphic that indicates that residents will soon be hearing more of a new corporate brand for the City of Prince Rupert.

This week also saw the city expand on its information push for the September launch for recycling with a home mailing campaign and a video hosted by the city's mayor Lee Brain.

Our notes on the council discussion and decision over increased recreation rates in Prince Rupert also attracted a strong readership this week.

Rounding out our week of five items, Northern Health with some applause for those who worked and participated in Prince Rupert's two COVID clinics, and Don Krusel a familiar name for many in Prince Rupert and architect of the transformation of Fairview into a leading container terminal on the west coast realized a setback in his latest project, a similar port transformation for Quebec City.

However, the top item of interest for the week comes from the files of the Prince Rupert detachment of the RCMP and their notes on a wild highway chase east towards Terrace.

City Council's new vision for the city, will bring a new visual look!  -- A one line graphic from the City of Prince Rupert Annual Report provided notice that Prince Rupert residents may soon see some changes to the image of the City with a new logo and other corporate branding to be revealed.  (posted July 8,2 021)

That article was followed by:

Strong results recorded for Prince Rupert's and Second shot COVID clinics  -- Northern Health provided a shout out to Prince Rupert through their Social Media feed this week, relaying notes of the success of the two community COVID clinics of March and June.  (posted  July, 5 2021)

Home mailer formally introduces city's recycling ambitions for September --  With a home delivery information campaign and video from Mayor Lee Brain, the city of Prince Rupert continued to outline the changes coming to home garbage pick up and the introduction of a recycling program to the community.    (posted July 6 , 2021)

Don Krusel's second act put on hold in Quebec City -- The former President and CEO of the Prince Rupert Port Authority and architect of the transformation of Fairview into a key container facility on the west coast has seen his work on a second significant project in Quebec City come to a halt after the Laurentia Container Terminal project ran into environmental issues and lack of approval by the Federal agency overseeing the proposal.  posted July 6 , 2021)

Following a 'Groundhog Day' discussion reminiscent of 2016, Council approves next round of Recreation fees increases for next five years -- Residents of the community using Recreation  programs and facilities with the City of Prince Rupert will be looking at increasing fees following the most recent City Council session.
