A unique look at British Columbia history will be unveiled tonight in the first of a four part series to be broadcast and streamed by BC's Knowledge Network.
The project tracing some of the events pivotal to the formative years for the province well before status as a colony and then later as an entrant into Confederation.
British Columbia An Untold History, examines the narrative from Indigenous history, the seldom told stories of the Chinese, Japanese, South Asian and Black communities. With segments also dedicated towards environmental and labour history that spans many areas and eras for the province.
The four segment work from Director Kevin Eastwood explores many incidents of the past that most of us may not even have an idea took place, such is the somewhat incomplete history of the province for most of us.
Many may remember one of his previous works for the Knowledge Network: Emergency Room: Life + Death at VGH, a critically acclaimed documentary on the pressures and challenges for the medical system in Vancouver.
His historical eye on themes that may not be as well known as the history books you remember, comes at pivotal time for the province and its evolution.
In an era when we're collectively looking to chart a future ahead, gaining a sense of the past is important and the four part series provides for a pretty good starting point for that conversation.
