In an information release today, George Heyman, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change Strategy outlined the nature of the 21.5 million dollar investment in BC Park infrastructure.
“This year has been another exceptionally busy season for BC Parks with more people than ever seeking the benefits to their health and well-being that nature and open spaces provide. Caring for and expanding BC Parks is an investment in a healthy future. These new projects provide even more people with the opportunity to explore and experience British Columbia’s spectacular beauty and retain the vitally important connection to nature.”
In the Northwest, Lakelse Lake Provincial Park near Terrace and Babine Mountains Provincial Park in the Bulkley Valley will see some improvements.
Lakelse Lake will see improvements in accessibility to the Twin Spruce Trail and Furlong Bay Campground.
While the Smithers area park will see upgrades and the rerouting of existing trail and construction of new ones.
The province also listed some additional measures set to move forward, including $2 million in new infrastructure maintenance funding will be invested in all regions of the province on high-use trail and facility improvement projects. Planning for these projects is underway, and some have already started.
To further expand opportunities for outdoor recreation, BC Parks is investing an additional $5 million per year for land acquisitions.

There was no mention of any specific improvements planned for Prudhomme Lake Provincial Park or Diana Lake. Provincial Park near Prince Rupert/Port Edward.
