Turning on the taps from Woodwoth Lake Dam still awaits Northern Health approval

Announced as complete in October, the Woodworth Lake Dam has
yet to be put into service to deliver water to Prince Rupert

The review of Major Projects from Monday's Prince Rupert City Council session provided for an update on the status of the Woodworth Dam, a project declared completed back imid October of 2022, but one yet to deliver any water to the city's water infrastructure on Kaien Island .

The update on the dam came from Operations Director Richard Pucci who acknowledged some of the interest in the community as to when the Woodworth Lake supply will be back in the water stream for the community.

"Woodworth Dam 100 percent complete and I know there's been a lot of questions about when the water will be coming back on. So the pipe has now been flushed and we are just working to hopefully in the next week or two, be able to have Northern Health give us the thumbs up that we can bring it back to the community, so we are very close"

Mr. Pucci did not expand on the theme, nor did any of the council members ask as to why there has been such a delay between completion of the dam and returning the Woodworth Lake water supply into service.

Councillor Cunningham did have a question related to the Scada system, with Mr. Pucci providing some additional background as to how that communication system will work between Woodworth Lake and the city's water infrastructure on Kaien Island.

Most of his comments towards the remaining five items on the Major Projects list were similar to the written report which you can review below.

Mr. Pucci's notes for Council are as follows:

  1. Once again if we can’t use it, it is not complete! The city wants to put 100% beside it. This is a falsehood.
