Ocean Centre Bus Pullout debuts after lengthy construction period

Transit users in Prince Rupert and Port Edward can once again make use of the Ocean Centre for their travels in and out of the downtown core, with the completion of sorts, for the Ocean Centre Bus Pullout which began construction in the summer.

The project which added additional space at the Ocean Centre for getting on and off the buses, makes for a safer transit along the busy Second Avenue West corridor.

Buses are now arriving and departing on their schedule from the pullout, though it may take a few days for motorists to get back into the swing of not parking in the area reserved for the buses.

How it all started back in August of 2022

Work on the project began in August, with what was supposed to be about a month of work towards the new pullout.

However, as Operations Director Richard Pucci noted in an update from November, a number of issues were discovered with the work that meant the timeline would have to be extended, with the final stages now not anticipated until sometime in the Spring of 2023.

How it looks in mid January of 2023

So far the City has not made any official announcement towards the return to service for the bus stop or the use of the new feature at the Ocean Centre,  as well as a timeline when it comes to putting a more permanent surface down along the curb side of the project.

For now however, while transit users await further details, they will welcome the return for the Ocean Centre Stop and the chance to stay out of the weather elements that come with waiting on a bus.
