Northwest business proponents with big plans for region gain shout out from Skeena MLA Ross

The ongoing work of a group of proponents for a Northwest business, looking to build their business plan in the Terrace area gained a shout from a valuable champion this week, with BC United MLA Ellis Ross highlighting the work done so far by Edison Motors.

The Terrace start up outlined their recent trip to Victoria at the invitation of the Skeena MLA, though they also observe that while the Opposition parties took an interest in their plans, the reception from the BC government hasn't been quite as enthusiastic.

Ross picked up on some of those themes in the BC Legislature on Tuesday morning, sharing his enthusiasm for what they hope to build in the Northwest.

"Edison raised $2.5 million by crowdfunding. Crowdfunding is raising small amounts of money from large amounts of people via the Internet. They went on to develop, build and test two prototype hybrid vehicles which acquired their first sales.

They now have ten employees, three semi-truck contracts and secured pre-orders from thousands of customers to help purchase a production facility in 2024. Edison Motors also developed a retrofit kit for one-tonne trucks.

This helps make sustainable technology accessible at a fraction of the cost of a new vehicle or electric alternative."

The MLA who shared his presentation from the Chamber through social media, also noted of their success at crowd funding and their blueprint for the future.

As well as their hopes to access industrial land in Terrace and how without the support in this province, they could be another British Columbia to seek out better opportunities elsewhere.

You can review some of the Edison Motors story so far, as well as what they hope to achieve in the future through their social media stream and website.

** Note we've revised the story to note that the group are hopeful of building a business in the Northwest area. Our apologies for any confusion on that.

  1. "I'm tired of this, I just wanna build trucks" may not be the best elevator pitch.
