Blog Watching: Week ending December 6, 2020

Our review of the five most read stories for the week has a strong theme on education, with our most read item focusing on COVID and concerns from local teachers.

With COVID numbers having increased in the Northwest and across BC in recent weeks, Prince Rupert teachers continue to press SD52 to take some additional measures towards classroom safety, this past week the teachers union outlined its plans for a local awareness campaign on December 10th.

A pair of local educators have also made use of their experiences through the pandemic to create a new children's book which makes note of Prince Rupert as Sarah McChesney and Laura Wiebe help youngsters and their parents navigate pandemic times.

The City's commercial sector suffered another setback this week, as MacCarthy GM announced their plans to close the Prince Rupert dealership at the end of this month.

A departure of another kind also caught the eye of our readers this week, as our notes on the Prince Rupert Golf Course's search for a new golf pro gained a fair bit of attention.

And some frustration for residents looking to access blood service work at the Prince Rupert Hospital also made for a well received story over the last seven days.

However, the twin themes of COVID-19 and local education by far was the most read story the week and our top item of our compilation of stories since last Sunday.
