With Referendum approval, housing plans in Lax Kw'alaams set to move forward

Voters in Lax Kw'alaams have approved a land designation that

Last month's referendum in Lax Kwa'alaams saw those residents who participated in the vote approved the  land designation initiative required to move forward on some new housing stock for the community north of Prince Rupert.

The referendum saw 258 ballots cast on January 31st, of that total 220 provided their assent, while 29 voters said No to the initiative that allows the WAAP Housing society to now lease land from the Band for the proposed housing project.  

7 ballots were not accepted or did not have declaration forms, while 2 ballots were spoiled.

The majority approval means that the WAAP plans for 20 new housing units will move forward with BC Housing, that will see the construction of the housing in a new subdivision, in the Simpson Boulevard area.
