City Hall puts out call for proposals to conduct a Prince Rupert Housing Needs Report

The next step in the City of Prince Rupert's evolving approach to the housing situation will come by way of a Housing Needs Report, with the City posting a call for proposals to the BC Bid website today.

The project which will be taken on by the city's planning department will have a budget of 20,000 dollars and will serve to enable the City to meet its commitment to complete a Housing Needs Report.

As well the work on the document will help the City to replace its Interim Housing Strategy with a new Housing Strategy that will be informed by the completed work of the report.

The Scope of the work to be taken on as part of the Housing Needs Report looks as follows:

Performing interviews with key informants

Developing public engagement tools and strategy

Analyzing engagement and statistical data to identify housing needs information, including key areas of local need, the number of housing units required to meet current and anticipated needs over the next 5 years, and the number and percentage of households in core housing need and extreme core housing needs

Developing a Housing Needs Report

Developing a Summary Report consistent with legislated requirements.

The Documentation included for proponents to review includes some background on the work that the City has done to date towards the housing situation in the community.

Facilitating the work on the Housing Needs Study for the City is Planner Myfannwy Pope, one of the two recently hired planners to assist with the city's growing workload on planning themes.

The deadline to express interest in the call for proposals has been set at 2PM on April 11th.

The BC Bid website features the full prospects from the City towards their expectations for the work.

The latest step in the city's review of housing issues comes amid many immediate challenges for residents to access affordable housing in the community, along with projections of future growth that will require much more in the availability of housing stock in the city and region.
